Why Do People Need Church?
People find many churches to be boring and irrelevant, making it a waste of time to attend. They often assume that all churches must be the same. However, all churches are not the same. In fact, churches, whether they claim to be non-denominational or part of a larger organization, can be radically different from one another. The Church of God in Flathead Valley believes that the Church should be relevant and, thus, offer an excellent return on time spent attending.

So, why go to church? What are the benefits of a church that honors God, cares for others and provides practical instruction that is relevant to both our culture and our daily lives?

First of all, you will receive practical insights, based on the Bible, which will help you make wise decisions and live your life with purpose. Rather than wandering through life and accomplishing very little or wondering if there is something more but never feeling like you’ve found it, you will learn how to live life to the fullest, impacting your world in a positive way, with the kind of purpose, direction, responsibility and focused passion that God intended.

Jesus said, in John 10:10, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

Secondly, your children will receive guidance and peer support that will enable them to also make right decisions and live responsibly, with positive vision and purpose in life. That, in itself, is legacy that can effect generations to come and yield a lifetime of good fruits.

Thirdly, you will find support from people who care and genuinely desire to follow Christ. Their prayers and words of encouragement will positively influence your life. They will also help you to understand and apply God’s Word in practical ways, to marriage, family, work, finances, ect.

Fourth, you will find help in many of the issues that affect your own life and the society in which we live, whether it is in a serious crisis or in the struggles and challenges of day-to-day life. Studies show that people who regularly attend an active, caring, Bible-based church are generally healthier, happier and even live longer lives.

Fifth, you will find a group of individuals whom can understand and relate to life in a real world, with whom you can build relationships and join in the encouragement and support of others.

Finally, you will grow in your understanding of and relationship to God, who not only created you but ordained the Church as an extension of his own love, an essential part of a believer's life.

Hebrews 10:24-25 tells us to, “consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

The Bible refers to the Church as a body, because of the care that we ought to have for one another. 1 Corinthians 12:25-27 plainly establishes, “That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honored, all the members rejoice with it. Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.”

The Church that Jesus ordained and set in order—the Church that is described in the Book of Acts—functioned as a family, caring deeply for one another and loved one another as themselves, so fulfilling the commandment of the Lord. The Church ought to be a place of love, where individuals can grow to their full potential, and where families and friends can flourish, while witnessing the presence of God in their lives.
